Meet Dr. Booth
20 Year Follow Up Paper
I tell people daily that I believe that I have the best job in the world. The field of orthodontics has given me the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives by helping them be proud of their smile. I love the creativity and challenge of using my skills and knowledge to solve the constantly changing problems I have the opportunity to correct. I enjoy it even more at this stage of my career because I have an extremely talented, long-term and loyal staff whom I can depend on to do their best. The young people I have the pleasure of being around have the ability to light up their surroundings with their smile and personality. When adults who have been embarrassed all their lives by their smile tear up when their braces are removed, I know I've done my job well.
Education
- Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry – Baylor University
- Doctor of Dental Surgery – University of Texas
- Master of Science in Orthodontics – University of Texas
Continuing Education
I am an adjunct professor at the UNC Department of Orthodontics and have taught orthodontic residents there every other Thursday since 1981. Preparing lectures for this and teaching in the clinic encourages me to stay current and be comfortable with all the newest technologies. In order to do this, it is essential to attend continuation courses and keep up with the latest developments in our professional journals.
In the Community
I have been a member and former president of the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville since 1973. I have also been a member of Haymount United Methodist Church for over 20 years and have chaired the Church Council, Trustees, and Stewardship and have sung in the choir. Using my woodworking skills, I lead a group of men who have built wheelchair ramps for elderly and disabled people for the past five years. I am also planning to travel to Liberia for two weeks in June 2010 for a mission trip.
Outside the Office
I am a resident of Fayetteville and live there with my wife, Brenda. We have four grown sons, Steven, Michael, Alan, and Matthew, and eight wonderful grandchildren. I have had many hobbies over the years, but my passion is woodworking. I build furniture and am a member of the Society of American Period Furniture makers. I also love to travel and take photographs especially in exotic places like China, the Galapagos, the Amazon rain forest, and Machu Picchu, and am planning to visit Africa for a photographic safari next September.
